Cartmel is a popular and pretty village with traditional lime washed and stone built houses, shops and pubs. There’s plenty to discover in the immediate area, including a Norman priory, a beautiful river, and the popular Cartmel Races, home of the smallest steeplechase racecourse in the country.
Located on the peninsula, Cartmel nestles just six miles south of Lake Windermere. There are plenty of easy walks from the village: you could climb Hampsfell with its panoramic views across towards Morecambe Bay, then descend down to Grange Over Sands or explore the tracks running through Eggerslack Woods. Among the many other highlights of this stunning area are the Grizedale Forest, the vibrant town of Kendal and the wonderful Fell Foot Park.
